The underwater world will bring delight to SnowVillage next winter – the fixed premises will triple in size following the renovation

Press release | Thu Sep 26 10:00:00 2024

Built for the 23rd time this winter, Lapland Hotels SnowVillage is a unique destination in Lainio, Kittilä, next door to the Ylläs ski resort. This year’s theme is the underwater world and its amazing diversity of species. Major changes and renovations have also been carried out in the area for the coming season. SnowVillage opens to the public on 25 December.

Built from scratch every year, Lapland Hotels SnowVillage makes visitors fall in love with its stunning snow art and yearly themes. In the upcoming winter season 2024–2025, you can admire the underwater world and its diversity in SnowVillage, from whales and turtles to seahorses and octopuses. The ice sculptures will also show a human handprint under the surface.

"So far, the themes have varied from one end to another, but we haven't gone under the surface yet. The theme aims to encourage visitors to make responsible choices for the preservation of clean water and biodiversity. SnowVillage’s speciality will once again be the large premises and the large snow and ice pieces built on them," says Technical Manager Tomi Kurtakko.

The construction of the Arctic world will begin in early November, as soon as the weather conditions allow. This year, part of SnowVillage’s Ice Exhibition will also be a venue space made of snow and ice, where you can organise a variety of events, such as marriage ceremonies or weddings. The space is decorated according to an underwater theme, including whale song. The room is named “Valhaan laulu” in the local Meänkieli language.

The premises will more than triple in size

For the coming winter season, Lapland Hotels SnowVillage has also undergone major changes, such as a thorough extension and renovation of its fixed buildings. The work started in April and the newly redesigned building will be completed by the end of October. All the old premises, such as the reception and the old Log Restaurant Krouvi, have been given a new look. When completed, the premises will more than triple in size.

SnowVillage will also have a new, warm glass restaurant with 100 restaurant seats.
New accommodation for this season is a luxury twin suite built in SnowVillage.

– "The renewal of the premises became necessary due to the increased number of customers. We needed more warm space so that our customers could warm up and enjoy food and cafe products while visiting the Ice Exhibition," says Destination Manager Maria Astrén.

Last year, approximately 80,000 people visited Lapland Hotels SnowVillage. The renovation is expected to increase the number of visitors for the coming winter season.

Lapland Hotels SnowVillage will open its doors to the public on 25 December 2024 and will be open daily from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. until 6 April 2025.
