Snow safety
Ylläs Ski Patrol is a voluntary group that monitors the snow conditions of the uncultivated fells of the national park. They are also the first - and the only - to forecast the local probability of avalanche. The forecasts are made weekly, and always when a swift change to the risk level occurs. In addition, the Ylläs Ski Patrol is in co-operation with the Finnish Meteorological Institute by sending them snowpack measurement information. The Finnish Meteorological Institute will use this information as one of their source in compiling the local avalanche probability forecast for Northern Finland.
